Stony Brook Medicine Radiology provides comprehensive imaging services and a wide range of modalities. Our radiologists work together in a collaborative academic setting to provide the highest quality care for our patients.
A hallmark of Stony Brook’s imaging program is our low-dose scanning protocol. Although there is not a nationally identified threshold for how much radiation exposure from the average scan is too much, we believe that the safest approach is to use the lowest dosage possible without compromising scan quality. This is important for everyone, but particularly for children who are still developing and individuals who may require repeated scans.
Stony Brook invented MRI, and today maintains cutting edge equipment to provide the highest quality images in the region. Image quality is dependent on two factors the equipment and physician technique. Stony Brook continually upgrades its imaging equipment to acquire the fastest and most accurate on the market because better equipment in the hands of our talented physicians gives results second to none.
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center at Stony Brook Medicine plays a leading role in providing services to the region. Stony Brook’s breast care program - the only comprehensive academic program of its kind on Long Island - champions a multidisciplinary approach for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast conditions, including both benign and malignant disease.
Pet/MRI provides an innovative way to fuse information from nuclear medicine and cutting edge MRI. Stony Brook Medicine has the only scanner on Long Island and our radiologists are uniquely qualified to interpret these studies to provide unique information for your care. PET/CT is also available at our facility.
Pediatric radiology services are provided by sub-specialized board certified academic radiologists who will take the best care of your children because that is all they do.
