Inpatient Discharge

normal medium large

    Number of inpatient discharges:
The total number of inpatients that were discharged during a given period of time. This includes patients that were admitted to the hospital for at least one day and does not include patients that were treated in the Emergency Department or the Ambulatory Surgery Center and then discharged.

It is important to track the number of discharges for a variety of reasons. One of them is to compare the number of discharges to the budgeted amount for the fiscal year (July through June) in order to determine if we are meeting our financial projections for the year. This allows us to determine if we are meeting or exceeding our market share locally and within the region.

A high number is better than a low number.
