Nursing Unit Expo Welcomes 100+ Students

Nursing Unit ExpoThe Stony Brook Medicine Talent Acquisition Team with Wolfie at the Nursing Unit Expo

Stony Brook Medicine Talent Acquisition hosted some of the best and brightest soon-to-be nursing graduates from across the region at our recent Nursing Unit Expo: Pathways to Care. This exclusive event, held at the Stony Brook Hilton Garden Inn on Wednesday, Jan. 17, allowed nursing students to get a true sense of what it means to be a nurse at Stony Brook.

Our leadership team and nurses, including nurse managers from units across the system, provided insight into what it’s like to work at Stony Brook, showcasing our supportive work culture, unique sense of camaraderie and endless opportunities for growth.

The Pathways to Care Expo was attended by more than 100 students from approximately nine area nursing schools. Stories of challenges and triumphs by nursing leaders provided a source of inspiration and practical advice to the attendees, equipping them with the wisdom to navigate their paths in the nursing field.

All four hospitals were represented, and speakers included event organizer and Talent Acquisition Director Lynne Alba; Chief Nursing Officer Carolyn Santora, MS, RN, from Stony Brook University Hospital; Chief Nursing Officer Suzie Marriott, MS, RN, from Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital; and team members at both Talent Acquisition and Nursing Professional Development and Education. The presentation to prospective nurses included information about our hiring and orientation processes, nurse residency program and curriculum, nursing professional practice model and journey to Magnet designation, signifying Stony Brook Medicine’s gold standard for nursing excellence.

A highlight of the Expo was the opportunity for attendees to network directly with nurse managers. These interactions not only allowed them to gain an understanding of the real-world nursing environment, but also opened doors to potential career opportunities and mentorships.

The aim was to empower these bright, aspiring nurses with knowledge, connections, and a sense of community. The Expo facilitated meaningful dialogues, fostered connections, and highlighted the diverse opportunities available within the nursing profession.

The following week, a similar event was held for soon-to-be graduates of the Stony Brook School of Nursing.

Our work preparing for and engaging in this event has set a new standard in supporting emerging nursing professionals. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all who participated and our sincere thanks to the many team members involved in this event, from planning and presenting, to speaking and working our exhibit areas. Because of you, the Nursing Expo was not just an event, but a milestone in nurturing the next generation of healthcare heroes.
