Opened in early 2014, the new MRI Suite on the fourth floor of Stony Brook University Hospital makes MRI imaging even more comfortable and convenient for patients. The suite includes a Siemens Magnetom Skyra 3T MRI scanner and a Siemens Magnetom Aera Dot 1.5T MRI scanner. Both are top-of-the-line, open bore machines that deliver accurate, efficient readings with maximum patient comfort. The wide bore is ideal for larger individuals or those with mild claustrophobia who may find the more traditional closed MRI technology challenging.
The new suite is spacious and patient-friendly, with two 400-square-foot MRI rooms, a centrally located 200-square-foot control room and a 360-square foot contrast/prep waiting are with three bed bays. Having MRI technology so close at hand for hospitalized patients offers an additional advantage of speed and accessibility when making diagnoses or when patient conditions change rapidly.
