Inpatient Education

The Inpatient Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES) are available in the hospital to provide diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) to all hospitalized patients with newly diagnosed and long-standing diabetes. The team will educate patients with type 1, type 2, gestational, prediabetes and diabetes in pregnancy. 

The education to patients will consist of monitoring blood glucose, insulin administration, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, the diabetes disease process including acute and chronic complications, signs and symptoms, treatments, and prevention. The CDCES/ diabetes team also assists hospital personnel with inpatient management and safe transition to discharge.
