As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. Your unwavering dedication to our patients and our mission is deeply appreciated — not only during the holidays but throughout the entire year. To those who will be working on Thanksgiving Day, thank you for ensuring that our patients continue to receive the exceptional care they need.
At Stony Brook Medicine, we are so fortunate to be part of an extraordinary community. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment among our team enable us to achieve incredible milestones. As I reflect on the past year, I am filled with pride in all the successes we’ve achieved together. Thanks to your hard work, compassion and innovation, we’ve had a remarkable year. - Stony Brook Medicine completed a successful Joint Commission triennial survey visit, receiving a three-year reaccreditation.
- Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital both earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2024 from The Leapfrog Group.
- Stony Brook University Hospital achieved the highest level of national recognition as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2024 and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care by Healthgrades® in addition to many other Excellence Awards and Five-Star Ratings across medical specialties from Healthgrades.
- Our sustainability efforts at Stony Brook University Hospital continue to receive accolades with an Environmental Sustainability Excellence Award from Vizient, Inc. and a Greenhealth Emerald Award and Greening the OR Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth.
- Becker’s Healthcare named Stony Brook Medicine one of the 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare for 2024.
- All Stony Brook Medicine hospitals have been recognized as “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leaders” for 2024 in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index. Stony Brook University Hospital was also among the first eight hospitals in the U.S. to attain the Health Care Equity Certification from The Joint Commission.
- Stony Brook Medicine was recognized nationally for high-quality stroke and cardiac care at both Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital through the American Heart Association and its Get With The Guidelines® program.
- Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital began TeleStoke capabilities, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s path to become a designated Primary Stroke Center.
- Stony Brook Medicine CPMP was honored by Vizient, Inc. with the Vizient Ambulatory Quality and Accountability Award.
- Money magazine ranked Stony Brook University Hospital as #19 on its prestigious “Best Hospitals of 2024” list and the #2 Best Hospital for Pediatric Care in the country.
- Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital celebrated the grand opening of two new recovery homes in Flanders, which will provide safe, supportive housing for women and LGBTQ individuals.
- Stony Brook University Hospital’s Neurocritical Care Unit received the Silver Beacon Award of Excellence (2024-2027) from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, one of only five in New York State.
- Stony Brook University Hospital’s Emergency Department was selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2024 Lantern Award.
- Stony Brook University Hospital was recognized as a 2024-25 Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the top 15 in New York State.
- Stony Brook University Hospital’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Program earned a prestigious three-star rating, the highest rating possible, from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
- Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital were two of only nine hospitals in New York State that have been acknowledged as Pediatric Innovators in the Always Ready for Children Pediatric Recognition Program.
