Stony Brook is 100% Tobacco-Free
Here’s news that has everyone breathing easier. In January 2016, the entire Stony Brook University campus became tobacco-free.
This initiative, entitled An Air of Respect, affects everyone who lives on, works on, or visits Stony Brook University, Stony Brook Medicine, and Long Island State Veterans Home, and covers all tobacco and smoke/vapor-producing products.
Why is becoming tobacco-free important? Among the most important reasons is it fosters a culture of respect for others. It also enhances health and wellness, and complements our sustainability efforts. In addition, it helps curtail costs related to cleaning, repairing and maintaining damaged facilities and areas due to tobacco product use.
