Stony Brook Medicine comprises Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, Stony Brook University School of Health Technology and Management, Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook University School of Nursing,Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Long Island State Veterans Home, as well as the Clinical Practice Management Plan and Outpatient Care sites.
The name Stony Brook Medicine expresses a shared mission of research, clinical care, education and service in the health sciences and is embraced by faculty, staff, researchers and students. It is the embodiment of everything they do on behalf of the health of patients, in the community, region and worldwide. Stony Brook Medicine recently completed developing a broad and comprehensive strategic plan for the overall organization that will inform and direct activities into the next five years.

Stony Brook Medicine is also the home of new technologies and discoveries such as 3-D virtual colonoscopy, the cause of Lyme disease, ReoPro (a medication recommended for cardiac angioplasty), Periostate (widely used for periodontal disease) and a new drug called Xiaflex to treat Dupuytren’s disease (a debilitating hand disorder).
