In recognition of its innovative use of technology to drive efficiencies and improve both care and the patient experience, Stony Brook Medicine has earned the 'Most Wired®' designation from the Hospitals & Health Networks and the American Hospital Association for the ninth consecutive year.

Stony Brook Honored For Primary Care Commitment
Dr. Reuven Pasternak was honored by the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) based in New York City at its Annual Spring Gala on June 5. He felt that this award was more important than the personal honor, but rather, provided the recognition to Stony Brook Medicine for its commitment to preventive medicine.

Stony Brook's Susmita Pati Receives National Recognition for Innovative Pediatric Program
Susmita Pati, MD, MPH, Chief of the Division of Primary Care Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Pediatrics, received the Academic Pediatric Association Healthcare Delivery Award for Stony Brook Children's Hospital's Keeping Families Healthy program. The award was presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting in San Francisco, CA, on May 7, during the APA Membership Meeting.

Hospital Recognized For Sustainability Practices
The kudos keep coming for Stony Brook Medicine for our sustainability practices. The latest award is from Practice Greenhealth, which has given Stony Brook its 2017 ‘Greenhealth Partner for Change’ Award as a leader in environmentally preferable practices in the healthcare industry.

First of Its Kind Case of Craniosynostosis in Triplets, Surgically Repaired at Stony Brook Children's Hospital
Amy and Michael Howard of Center Moriches couldn't believe when they heard that they were having triplets, but the surprises didn't stop there. Shortly after birth, the first time parents found out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Stony Brook Medicine that all three of their babies -- Jackson, Hunter, and Kaden -- had Craniosynostosis, a congenital premature fusion of one or more sutures on a baby's skull.

Two Physicians Recognized for Novel Work in Cancer, Antifungal Research Named to AAP
Stony Brook University School of Medicine physician-scientists Ute Moll, MD, and Maurizio Del Poeta, MD, have been elected into the prestigious Association of American Physicians (APP). The AAP recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement in the pursuit of medical knowledge and the advancement of clinical science through experimentation and discovery. Both physicians will be inducted as AAP members at the organization's annual meeting in Chicago on April 22.

Trauma Center Achieves Verification from ACS

Stony Brook's Taber Receives National Recognition for Commitment to Diversity
Stony Brook University's Charles Taber, PhD, received the 2017 "Giving Back Award," from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. Taber, Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Education and Dean of the Graduate School is also a professor of Political Science at Stony Brook.

Stony Brook Educators Receive 2017 MLK Suffolk County Public Service Award
Bonita London, PhD, Professor of Psychology in the Stony Brook University College of Arts and Sciences, and Toni Sperzel, Interim Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion for the Stony Brook Center for Inclusive Education (CIE), were awarded the 2017 Public Service Award by the Suffolk County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. The award was presented in recognition of their "demonstrated record of dedication to civil rights."

Stony Brook Top Hospital on Long Island for Heart Attack Survival Rates
What hospital on Long Island has the best survival rates for heart attack patients? If you guessed Stony Brook, you guessed right. With only 10.7 deaths per 1,000 patients, Stony Brook’s mortality rate for heart attack patients is the best among Long Island hospitals, as reported by Newsday. Stony Brook Midwifery Named National Best Practice
Congratulations to our Stony Brook Midwifery Practice, which has been designated a “Best Practice” by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) for its rate of NTSV C-Section and rate of newborn readmissions. “NTSV C-Section” means the rate of Cesarean births among nulliparous women with a term, singleton baby in a vertex position.

On Thursday, July 21, 38 students who had been treated at Stony Brook Children's Hospital for childhood cancer, were the recipients of this year's Dan Brooks Memorial Educational Award. The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook University campus.

Nurses’ Quality Work Earns National Recognition
We are proud of our Stony Brook Nurses for the caring, compassion and intelligent acts that make a difference in patient care every day. Two of our nurses received word that their abstract, ‘Leveraging Our Resuscitation Data to Improve Patient Care in Neonates,’ was accepted for presentation at the 2016 American Nurses Association Conference: Quality, Safety and Staffing.

SBUH was granted the Get with the Guidelines Gold PLUS with Target Elite PLUS award recognition program from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
The prestigious Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award was presented to SBUH’s Ambulatory Surgery Center in recognition of its high level of patient satisfaction.
