Eric J. Morley, MD, is the Chief Quality Officer for Stony Brook University Hospital and Professor of Emergency Medicine. Prior to assuming the CQO role, he served as Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs/Medical Director for the Dept. of Emergency Medicine and Deputy Chief Medical Information Officer for Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Morley received his MD from SUNY Downstate Medical College and a master’s degree in molecular, cell, development and neuroscience from SUNY Albany and a Master of Health Administration from Stony Brook University. Dr. Morley leads quality efforts at Stony brook Medicine and is the Physician Leader of the Central Throughput Office (CTO). He has played an instrumental role in developing protocols for the CTO, including a daily, house-wide throughput huddle that consists of nursing, physicians, patient access, radiology and care management. Dr. Morley also co-led the Emergency Dept. (ED) team in developing the Geriatric ED program, which has since received the only ACEP Silver Level Geriatric ED Certification on Long Island. His deep commitment to quality improvement is evidenced by the implementation of numerous quality initiatives, including fall recognition and intervention programs, CAUTI reduction, ED dementia and delirium screening tools, sepsis/septic shock real-time identification and intervention processes, and COVID pandemic treatment protocols, to name just a few. Research interests include operations, quality improvement, data analytics, artificial intelligence, medical education, and evidence-based medicine. He has over 70 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and book chapters on varied topics including clinical care, education, and operations.
