Konstantinos Spaniolas, MD, MBA, FACS, FASMBS, chief of the Department of Surgery's Division of Bariatric, Foregut and Advanced GI Surgery; and Director, Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center; has been named President of Stony Brook Community Medical (SBCM) and Meeting House Lane (MHL). Dr. Spaniolas, Professor of Surgery and Vice Chair of Quality and Outcomes, will assume leadership of SBCM and MHL effective November 1, 2024.
Dr. Spaniolas' new roles come as a result of Dr. William Wertheim's promotion to the Executive Vice President of Stony Brook Medicine (SBM) position and SBM leadership deciding to combine the SBCM and MHL president positions. Dr. Spaniolas will be joined by Dr. Dara Brener, who will assume the role of Medical Director of SBCM, and Dr. Lara DeSanti-Siska, who will become the Medical Director of MHL. In addition, Jennifer Crema will assume the role of Executive Director of MHL and Stony Brook Administrative Services (SBAS). Outgoing MHL President, Dr. John Patrick Reilly, will become the Director of East End Cardiology Development, which will marshal efforts to provide new and pioneering cardiac services for the East End of Long Island.
In his new role as President of SBCM and MHL, Dr. Spaniolas will oversee outpatient structures, physician practices and community physicians with the aim of ensuring that community healthcare needs are met. We wish Dr. Spaniolas, Dr. Brener, Dr. DeSanti-Siska and Jennifer Crema success in their new roles.
