Divisions of Plastic and Reconstructive, General and Vascular Surgery Bolstered by New Faculty
Stony Brook Medicine's Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Doctors Alvin Wong, MD; Adam Kressel, MD, PhD; and Matthew Pergamo, MD to our Stony Brook Medicine faculty. They will be seeing patients in our Plastic and Reconstructive, General and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery divisions, respectively.
Alvin Wong, MD
Dr. Alvin Wong comes to Stony Brook from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where he was Assistant Professor, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A native Long Islander (originally from Manhasset), Dr. Wong received his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012. He completed his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 2020, followed by fellowships in craniofacial surgery at the University of California, San Diego in 2021 and Microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan, Taiwan in 2022.
"My interests include pediatric cleft and craniofacial care, facial reanimation and general reconstruction," said Dr. Wong.
He is a member of the Howard C. Naffziger Surgical Society, Plastic Surgery Research Council, American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and was an Advisor for the VCU branch of Operation Smile. He has published several papers and is a peer reviewer for several plastic surgery publications.

Adam Kressel, MD, PhD
Dr. Adam Kressel comes to Stony Brook after completing an Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship from the Mount Sinai Health System (New York) in 2024. He previously completed a General Surgery residency at Northwell Health (Manhasset, NY) in 2022. Dr. Kressel will be a faculty member in both the Department of Surgery and the Department of Urology.
"I am excited to join the departments of General Surgery and Urology as a Transplant Surgeon," said Dr. Kressel. "I look forward to contributing to the amazing programs in place and expanding the research endeavors here at Stony Brook, all in an effort to further improve the lives of our transplant patients."
Dr. Kressel received his MD from Tulane University School of Medicine (New Orleans, LA) in 2014, and received a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine (Manhasset, NY) in 2019.
He is a member of several professional associations including the Association for Academic Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Association for Surgical Education, Medical Society of the State of New York and the New York Academy of Sciences. He has various research interests, particularly in transplantation.

Matthew Pergamo, MD
Dr. Matthew Pergamo comes to Stony Brook from the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program (New York). He completed a General Surgery Residency Program at NYU School of Medicine in 2022. Dr. Pergamo received his MD from NYU School of Medicine in 2017.
"I am very excited to be joining Stony Brook University's Department of Surgery," said Dr. Pergamo, also a native New Yorker. "I look forward to being able to provide care to the diverse community in the area and contributing to the strong reputation that Stony Brook has for research and teaching."
Dr. Pergamo is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Venous Forum. He has published several papers in various professional publications.
