Q&A for parents of 13 to 17-year old patients

Answer:
Your child can

  • Send messages to their provider for non-urgent questions
  • Request an appointment
  • Renew medications
  • View allergies, current medications, past procedures, patient education videos, patient summaries and lab results.
  • View and download their Transition of Care document (also known as Continuity of Care document).

Answer:
Yes. The MyHealtheLife portal has a secure messaging system that allows your teen to confidentially communicate with their health providers. This is to ensure your teen's privacy rights and open communication about sensitive health topics. .

Answer:
No. Once a child turns 13 years old, we do not provide parent proxy access to the MyHealtheLife portal or your teen's test results and doctor communication. Medical experts say this policy encourages teenagers to openly discuss health concerns and seek needed care.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, keeping visits confidential removes barriers for teenagers getting medical advice or treatment. Of course, we encourage teens to communicate openly with their parents whenever appropriate.
