Recognition

As part of our continued focus on employee recognition, Stony Brook Medicine participates with the DAISY Foundation to recognize Nurses within our institution that provide extraordinary, compassionate, skillful care to our patients and their families.  We also recognize the staff who support our nurses through the SUNFLOWER awards.

The DAISY Foundation  started in 1999 by the Barnes Family to honor their son Patrick and to thank the nursing staff that cared for him and their family. DAISY is an acronym that stands for Disease Attacking the Immune System and this program allows patients, families and staff to express their gratitude to nurses for what they became nurses to do-provide compassionate care to patient and their families.

It was the first program of its kind to give patients, families and staff the ability to recognize outstanding nursing care. The foundation has expanded to include hospitals and health care systems both nationally and internationally.

We are thrilled to honor our Stony Brook Medicine and Stony Brook Children’s Nurses throughout the year as DAISY Award winners providing compassionate healthcare to our patients and their families.
