Marissa Pantol, LPN, 9 North Surgical Acute, was named the June DAISY Award recipient for Stony Brook Medicine.
Marissa’s dedication to her patients has made her the first LPN at Stony Brook Medicine to receive this prestigious award.
Marissa was nominated by a grateful patient who shared a heartfelt story about the remarkable care Marissa provided during a challenging hospital stay. The patient, who faced a prolonged hospitalization, highlighted how Marissa’s attentive and compassionate approach made a significant difference.
The patient recounted experiencing frequent anxiety due to the need for repeated IV replacements. Marissa’s consistent efforts to ease this anxiety by engaging in comforting conversations and making the patient laugh were deeply appreciated. Marissa’s proactive advocacy for a PICC line to alleviate the stress of constant IV changes showcased her commitment to patient well-being.

When the patient faced uncertainty about a critical surgical procedure, Marissa’s timely intervention and communication with the medical team ensured the patient received the necessary information and reassurance.
The patient noted, “All the nurses on this floor are amazing, but Marissa stood out because she seems to genuinely care for her patients and empathize with them… As someone who works in healthcare, I look up to her and will strive to be like her when I return to work.”
