Tara Gerken, RN, 9 North Surgical Acute, was selected as the July DAISY Award recipient at Stony Brook University Hospital. 

Tara’s unwavering dedication to providing exceptional patient care is reflected in the profound impact she has on her patients.

Tara was nominated by a patient who was in the hospital for an extended period. During that time, the patient was able to confide in Tara and found solace in her kindness, professionalism and compassionate care.

The patient described Tara as an advocate, as well as a valued support system, and appreciated her caring and reassuring nature. Tara’s “bubbly and funny” personality instantly eased her patient’s stress, making the patient’s hospital stay much more comfortable.

Tara became one of the patient’s favorite nurses, with the patient stating, “I'm genuinely always happy to see Tara. She’s an amazing nurse, and I'm so lucky to have the privilege of being taken care of by her.”
