Coming Soon… Stony Brook Doula Partnership
In conjunction with Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Midwives is happy to announce their very own Doula service - Stony Brook Doula Partnership.
A doula is a non-clinical professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to pregnant people and their partners before, during, and after childbirth. The goal of a doula is to ensure that the birthing person feels safe, empowered, informed, respected, and heard throughout their experience.
The benefits of having a doula include:
- Improved birth outcomes
- Reduced cesarean rates
- Shorter labor times
- Less use of pain medication
- Increased breastfeeding success
- Enhanced emotional support and reduced stress
- Greater sense of control and empowerment
- Better communication with medical staff
- Support for the partner or other family members
Studies have shown that having a doula present during childbirth can have a positive impact on both the mother's and the baby's health, as well as the overall birth experience.
