The Division of Gynecologic Oncology directed by Michael L. Pearl, MD, FACOG, FACS, is the only academic subspecialty gynecology oncology practice in Suffolk County. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology and Hospice & Palliative Medicine, Dr. Pearl is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Melissa Henretta, MD, MPH, FACOG joined the Division in 2011 after completing her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Virginia. She is Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Joyce Varughese, MD joined the Division in 2013 after completing her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology training at Yale School of Medicine.
The Division members have three overlapping goals: to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for women with known or suspected gynecologic cancers, including cancers of the ovaries, uterus (endometrium), cervix, vulva, vagina, peritoneum and fallopian tubes, as well as for those with complicated gynecologic surgical and selected pre-invasive conditions; to conduct research into the development and treatment of these cancers; and to educate healthcare professionals and the public about gynecologic cancers and pre-cancerous conditions.
Annually, the Division sees approximately 720 new patients, performs approximately 520 surgical procedures, administers 540 chemotherapy cycles and totals nearly 3600 office visits.
