Schools of Nursing and Social Welfare Interprofessional Education with Simulation Event - April 2026
This interactive, case-based learning and simulation provided students in the Schools of Social Welfare (MSW) and Nursing (MHNP) a unique opportunity to learn with, from and about each other. Nursing and social welfare students worked together to complete a bio-psych-social-spiritual assessment with a standardized patient while learning the value of interprofessional communication, roles and responsibilities, and teamwork to deliver the highest quality care to patients.
School of Health Professions Interprofessional Education Day - April 3, 2026
The School of Health Professions annual IPE day brings SHP and SSW students together to learn with each other. This year's event was structured as multiple escape rooms. Interprofessional student teams had to work through case related puzzles and games designed around the theme of the Wizard of Oz. Faculty in SHP worked collaboratively to develop a case and IPE event that gave students to develop team-based competencies, including communication, teamwork, and roles and responsibilities. Feedback and evaluations from the event highlighted students' attainment of interprofessional learning outcomes, appreciation for this unique opportunity and enjoyed the experience.

School of Health Professions Pediatric Interprofessional Education Day - March 6, 2026
The Departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant and Speech-Language Pathology held their 3rd consecutive 'Rare-IPE' day. This interprofessional event allows students to explore individual roles through the lens of optimizing collaborative efforts when working with individuals representing the 'rare community' of over 7,000 rare diagnoses. Faculty responsible for the Pediatric content in each of these SHP Departments created an agenda that allowed for interprofessional learning based upon survey feedback from students from prior years. Five rare diagnoses were chosen as the basis for exploration and interprofessional learning. A guest speaker from the rare community shared, for the 3rd consecutive year, her perspective on what healthcare professionals must know in working with affected individuals and their families. The group has presented on this unique format at national and local conferences.
