About Us

Established in 1987, Stony Brook Medicine’s HIV Treatment and Designated AIDS Center (DAC) is the second New York State approved center and the only one in Suffolk County. Our adult team is led Dr. Jack Fuhrer who has been at Stony Brook for more than 30 years and, in addition to providing excellent compassionate care to patients living with HIV, has been involved in HIV-related research. Our Adult Nurse Practitioners each have over 15 years of experience caring for patients living with HIV.  The Pediatric Program, led by Dr. Sharon Nachman, has similarly been caring for children and adolescents living with HIV since the 1990s. Dr. Nachman’s team also engages in both nationally and internationally funded HIV research. Our maternal-fetal team, led by Dr. David Garry has many years of experience caring for women living with HIV.

Our center provides a multitude of medical and support services. Our experienced staff strives to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to diverse communities we serve. We have bilingual (English and Spanish) staff and written material for individual requesting these resources.

The Edie Windsor Healthcare Center, an affiliate of Stony Brook’s HIV Treatment Center, is located on the Hamptons and serves the community residing on the East End of Long Island since 1994. For more information about the Center, click here.
