International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT):
The International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Network is a global collaboration of investigators, institutions, community representatives and other partners organized for the purpose of evaluating interventions to treat and prevent HIV infection and its consequences in infants, children, adolescents and pregnant/postpartum women through the conduct of high quality clinical trials. The Department of Pediatrics Division of Infectious Diseases has been a PACTG/IMPAACT funded site since 1992.
HIV Outpatient Study (HOPS):
The HIV Outpatient Study (HOPS) is one of the largest U.S. government-funded longitudinal cohort studies. It follows HIV-infected patients to gain insights to improve prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The CDC initiated the study in 1993 to describe and monitor trends in demographics, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments in a population of HIV-infected outpatients in nine clinics across the United States of America. HOPS researchers at these clinics gather clinical, immunologic and virologic data, as well as genotypic and phenotypic information through periodic reviews of medical records. Through analysis of HOPS data, researchers have verified the impact of existing therapeutics, gained knowledge to inform new best practices in prevention and treatment and discovered new concerns warranting additional study.
